Sheffield to Devonport Cycling
Distance: 43 km | Duration: 4 to 8 hours | Start: Devonport City Centre | End: Sheffield
This section of the long-distance Tasmanian Trail takes you from the port city of Devonport (the arrival point of the Spirit of Tasmania) to the peaceful town of Sheffield. It’s a shared route that is used by not only mountain bikers and cyclists but also hikers and horse riders. Along the way, you’ll be treated to stunning scenery and ride through historic villages, with an elevation gain of just under 1000 metres.
From Devonport, the trail follows the banks of the Mersey River to Latrobe (home to the Axeman’s Hall of Fame and Anver’s Chocolate Factory) before continuing on to Railton. Dubbed the “Town of Topiary” due to its clipped creations, Railton also boasts a great brewery where you can stop for an afternoon refreshment. The trail then winds through scenic farmland and timber plantations en route to Sheffield, which nestles at the base of iconic Mount Roland.
