Hobart to Glenorchy Cycling
Hobart to Glenorchy Cycleway
Distance: 9.5 km | Duration: 1 to 2 hours | Start: Hobart Regatta Grounds | End: Tasmanian Transport Museum
Beginning at the Hobart Regatta Grounds on Queens Domain, this concrete cycleway hugs the Derwent River upstream to the northern suburbs of the Tasmanian capital. From the Cenotaph, cycle beneath the immense Tasman Bridge and along the edge of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens before arriving at picturesque Cornelian Bay.
You can grab a coffee or lunch at the Cornelian Bay Boathouse Restaurant before following the cycleway inland and over the Newtown Rivulet. Pedal through the backstreets of Moonah and past the Hobart Showgrounds, with your final destination - the Tasmanian Transport Museum - just around the corner. Its exhibits include vintage locomotives and passenger carriages, as well as old buses and transport-related memorabilia.
If you’re still feeling energetic, you can continue along the cycleway northwest passed the Montrose Foreshore Community Park before stopping to explore the underground galleries of MONA. The cycleway officially ends in Claremont where a branch trail connects to the Cadbury’s Factory.
